The story of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty (Gregory Peck), a courageous Irish priest working in Vatican City during the German occupation of Italy. O'Flahery devotes all his time and energy to hiding refugees and Allied POWs from the Nazis, building a network of hundreds of people to help him with his efforts. Working closely with a brave widow of an aristocrat, he uses disguises to slip in and out of the Vatican. O'Flahery continues these dangerous missions until Rome is liberated and consequently saves thousands of innocent people from death.

This is a magnificent movie with a well written script and excellent acting. A fine portrayal of an extraordinary true story.
