This dramaic film tells the biography of Father Damien, who in 1872 travelled to the island of Molokai. On this island in the Hawaiian chain he tended to lepers who had been exiled and now lived in miserable surroundings. Damien earned the trust of of the lepers, and his appeals for help resonated throughout the world. Even after Damien himself contracted leprosy he carried on working for his "fellow lepers" to the end. It took a few years for this movie to actually be released due to delayed scenery scene shots and was yet well worth the wait.  Filmed on the Hawaiian Islands including Molokai.

 A well written screenplay of a true hero from the past.
