Sodom and Gomorrah
1962, Twentieth Century Fox
Length - 150 minutes
Not Rated (some adult content)
The story of Lott and his days within the walls of Sodom and
Gomorrah, comes to life on the screen with this intriguing motion picture.
Precarious attractions and vice are predominant in these two cities ruled
by Queen Bera.
Lott (Stewart Granger), leader of the Hebrews, guides his weary people
out the desert to settle near Sodom. Pier Angeli plays the part of Lott's
wife who never fully becomes accustomed to the ways of the Hebrews.
Out of necessity Lott reluctantly makes a pact with Queen Bera to become
her military ally. The historic twin cities built; ruled and sustained
with corruption and brutal slavery, eventually become home for Lott, his
family and the other Hebrews. This outcome exposes “Gods Chosen
People” to serious temptations and begins a relationship with the
population of Sodom which eventually ends in Gods decisive judgment.
A film of this nature clearly defines how a degrading and spiritless society
can not only become self destructive; but why its dangerous fruits and
social values can be adopted by the one time naive or innocent. Also,
although one of the less known biblical classics, it is a magnificent
screen play about the vulnerabilities of human nature and definitely worth
the time to watch.
