Jacob

1994 Turner Pictures
Length 94 minutes
Rated PG

This film based on several chapters of the Book of Genesis brings to life the story of Jacob. Director Peter Hall brings to the screen one of the most heartfelt and painful romances of all time; filmed in the stunning deserts of Morocco. Jacob with the help of his mother, Rebekah, tricks his elderly father Isaac into giving Esau’s birthright to him by mistake. Fearing for his life, he flees his family’s camp, and while traveling to another region Jacob then meets the beautiful Rachel. Unfortunately, Jacob makes an agreement where he must toil in hard labor seven years for Rachel’s father before he wins her hand in marriage. But Laban a treacherous man, and father of both Rachel and Lia, arranges the ultimate deceit on the wedding night.
As a consequence to this deceitful act Jacob gains two wives but he reluctantly agrees to another seven years of labor. The children born into this marriage triangle set the stage for the last chapters of Genesis and the next movie “Joseph”.
