Barabbas

1961
Columbia Pictures, 134 minutes
Rated  PG   Widescreen   Languages - English; Subtitles French, Spanish and Portugese

This film is the fictionalized story of Barabbas based on the intriguing passage in the New Testament; when Pontius Pilate asks the people of Jerusalem whom they want freed. Ironically the mob chose Barabbas, a thief and a murderer, over the true Son of God, Jesus of Nazareth. The plot continues and although he has been set free, the previous event is one that haunts Barabbas for the rest of his life. Through his journeys he encounters Christians who attempt to convert him to the new faith but without much success. It is only at the end, when Barabbas himself faces crucifixion does he acquire true faith and wisdom.
